Cereals in general (6 syns)

In general, most cereals are not good for you!  Don't be fooled with comments like "natural" or "fortified with".   The more basic the cereal - the more healthier it is likely to be.  For example, branflakes - good; crunchy nut - bad.  The 5 cereals I would stick to are 1) The Dorset range 2) Branflakes 3) Weatabix 4) Shredded Wheat and 5) Oats.  Basic is Best!

Also, you should limit your serving to 35g a day (I know it doesn't look like much - so pump it up with diced fruit).  For this recipe, it's important to slice the apple than to eat it whole. Eating the slices rather than the whole slows down the eating process, which means you enjoy the apple more and the taste lasts longer. The variety of apple I personally love are Pink Ladies.

Oh, and although I've listed this item as a Breakfast, there's no reason why you can't have cereal for lunch, a light meal or even dinner!   You don't have to stick to the rules; I mean - where did the rule of cereal for breakfast come from in the first place?   People in other countries eat grains all the time whenever!

Course Breakfast, Dinner, Lunch
Cuisine English
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 person

Ingredients

  • 30 g Dorset cereals - Simply Nutty muesli
  • 250 ml semi-skimmed milk
  • 1 sliced apple

Method

  1. Just add the milk to the cereal and eat!
  2. Afterwards, complete with sliced apple.

Recipe Notes

Why not buy an apple corer/slicer? They're cheap (around £3/$5) and take all the hassle out of slicing an apple and removing the core.
