Beef or Lamb Kheema (0 syns)

Kheema is basically a popular Indian curry made traditionally with minced lamb. But you can replace lamb with minced beef if you want (Note: Indians do not eat beef). It is served with plain boiled rice or chapattis. If you are trying to lose weight - leave out the chapattis and go for rice instead.

Ingredients

  • 400-500 g of lamb or beef - LEAN or EXTRA LEAN
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 inch root ginger
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 3 green chillies or half teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 can tinned chopped tomatoes
  • 2 handfuls chopped coriander
  • 2 cups of frozen peas

Method

  1. Fry the onion until lightly brown (3-5 mins)
  2. Add the garlic and fry for 2 minutes more.
  3. Turn heat down and add ginger, chillies, salt and garam masala. Cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Add tomatoes followed by the coriander and cook for 2-3 minutes more.
  5. Add the minced meat. Stir thoroughly. Cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Add the frozen peas, Stir thoroughly and cook for 2 minutes more.
  7. Add 1 cup of boiling water. Bring to the boil and then reduce the heat and cover - allow to simmer for around 20-40 minutes. The more you cook, the more tender the meat becomes.
  8. If there is too much fluid, take the lid off and boil off.

Recipe Notes

I've actually converted this dish into a biryani by adding rice to it and mixing it all in. (A Biriyani is basically a 'dry' rice dish). For a stronger flavour add more chilli, salt and garam masala (double the amount). Slimming World members - make this dish Extra Easy by adding more vegetables (green beans work particularly well - as does cauliflower and brocolli and sweetcorn).
